DTA at the Water Week in Dubai – Innovation in Space: from Earth Observation to the Blue Economy

The Expo Dubai 2020 will celebrate « Water» from 20 to 26 of March. A number of events will be organised during the week looking at all aspects of saving our most precious natural resource, and covering a number of topics: from Blue Economy to Water Management.

During the “Water Week” at EXPO 2020, from 20th to 26th March 2022, Apulia Region will be showcasing the pioneering technologies and best practices of Apulian Universitie, research centres and DTA as well as Port and Aqueduct Authorities in various fields of blue economy, including  sustainable coastal management.

The highlight event of the “Water Week” at the Italian Pavilion, will be the International Forum “Sustainable coastal management: technologies for an integrated approach“ organized by Apulia Regional government and Puglia Sviluppo, in collaboration with CMCC – Euro Mediterranean Center on Climate Change – Foundation, which will focus on new technologies and solutions which can help monitor and detect threats, contributing to protect coastal areas and seaports. The DTA will be represented from Fiorella Coliolo that will join the thematic session “Technologies and best practices for sustainable coastal development”, to discuss how space technologies and applications can face global marine challenges and contribute to the develoment of a sustainable Blue Economy. The “Water Week” will be also the opportunity for DTA to mark a new step in European  Space2Wawes project, that brings together six clusters with experience in the Blue Economy and space sector: DTA (IT), Pol Mer Mediterranée (FR), Aerospace Valley (FR), Corallia (GR), MSE International (UK), Forum Oceano (PT). Space2Waves aims to accelerate the global deployment of Earth Observation technologies in blue growth and support European SMEs competitiveness to export to Australia, Canada, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

DTA is leading the Space2Waves market  in UAE and an interesting programme – from B2B to professional visits 24-25 March – has been organised for the SMEs that joined the project : CMCC (IT), Digimat (IT), Novotech (IT), Satlantis (SP), SatSense (UK).  The others SMEs – Consortis (GR), Action Air Environment (FR),  exactEarth (UK), IMT (IT), and Techworks Marine (IRD) APPHIA (IT) –  decided the virtual B2B  and their activities will start in April.  

All the SMEs will gain an understanding of challenges and opportunities of the marine sector  in UAE and will meet relevant stakeholders to explore synergies in the field of  Earth observation and blue economy.
