March 20-22 in Grottaglie the second edition of Mediterranean Aerospace Matching

The Aerospace Technology District (DTA), in collaboration with the Apulia Region, ENAC, Aeroporti di Puglia and Cryptaliae Spaceport, is organising the new edition of the Mediterranean Aerospace Matching (MAM24). The initiative will take place at Grottaglie Airport (TA) ‘Marcello Arlotta’ on 20, 21 and 22 March 2024.

As part of the initiative, on 20 and 21 March, DTA will host the fourth edition of Drones Beyond (DB24), two days of innovative field activities in which several drones will operate in a futuristic aerial scenario. Numerous demonstrations of civil and military aerial services (surveillance, observation, inspection, agriculture, transport, etc.) will take place in a dedicated airspace. Experimental U-space services and innovative navigation support systems will ensure coordination and safety.

During these two days, the rich programme of activities will include

– Panel discussions and keynote speeches on the main areas of development of the European UAS industry and new forms of air mobility;

– the 3rd edition of the “DB Racing” drone competition for secondary school students, open for the first time to schools from Lucania and Campania through the Campania Aerospace District and the Basilicata District;

– Guided tours of the exhibition area and meetings with experts who will explain careers linked to the world of aerospace;

– Visits to the Naval Museum in Grottaglie: in collaboration with the Navy, the students will visit the historical craft exhibition of the Naval Military Arsenal.

The third day will be devoted to space issues.

MAM24 brings together authorities and policy makers, industry experts, national and international industry representatives, defence agencies, start-ups and professionals, students and researchers to discuss the evolution of the aerospace sector and in particular the new challenges in the field of advanced air mobility and space transportation systems.

The aim of this edition of MAM is to consolidate the image of the Apulian and Italian aerospace system at international level, to show the new perspectives in the field of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAS) and Innovative Aerial Services (IAS), to initiate a path of collaborative technological and industrial development in the Mediterranean area and to qualify the Taranto-Grottaglie airport as a technological and industrial hub for the design, development, ground and flight testing (UAS flight testing) of innovative aerospace solutions.

The Mam is also a concrete demonstration of the test bed, an infrastructure to support research and development, test demonstrations and trials, created by the DTA and its three partners: the University of Salento, the University of Bari and the Polytechnic of Bari.

The event is an opportunity for start-ups and Apulia’s technical and scientific education system to come into contact with leading aeronautical companies.

The event will also present the start-ups selected to join the incubation programme of ESA BIC Brindisi, the first incubator of the European Space Agency in southern Italy, managed by the Aerospace Technology District.
