On April 10, the Final Review of the Certiflight project was held at the EUSPA – European Union Agency for the space program in Prague. The CERTIFLIGHT project is coordinated by Top View and was carried out in collaboration with DTA, d-Flight, TSP, TU Delft, Way4Ward, Upvision, Unifly, Aria United, EuroUSC España and EuroUSC Italia. The CERTIFLIGHT project has received funding from EUSPA.
The meeting was very satisfactory, with confirmation of the fulfillment of the objectives identified and within the set timeframe laying the foundation for the future commercial development of the developed technology.
The project has achieved many results in a short period, developing specialized products and services based on GALILEO OSNMA (Open Service Navigation Message Authentication) satellite signals.
The CERTIFLIGHT project has enabled the development of a digital EGNSS/IoT device installed on UAS and manned general aviation/ultralight aircraft, equipped with an OSNMA Galileo/EGNOS-enabled receiver and a software platform for generating certified reports of flight tracks and flight logs of UAS and GA aircraft through which U-space services are provided for the legal certification of tracks generated by UAS flights and aircraft.
The developed receiver, UTM Box for UAS and general aviation, can detect the OSNMA signal which ensures that the processed spatio-temporal data is from the GALILEO satellite constellation. The data management system, based on blockchain technology, ensures that the spatio-temporal data associated with the UAS air operation and the data collected by the airborne sensors are secure against cyber-attacks and thus guarantee the certainty of the information processed and provided to users.
DTA contributed throughout the development phase of the project and particularly during the validation phase with an extensive campaign conducted at the Grottaglie Airport Test Bed. Nine experiments were conducted throughout the duration of the project covering a time frame from October 2023 to December 2025 thus covering the entire development of the innovative solution. The extensive validation campaign ranging from precision agriculture, infrastructure inspection to demonstration of Collision Avoidance algorithm shown the added value of the Certiflight solution in operational environments by interacting with the Italian UTM service provider (USP) D-Flight, a partner of the consortium.
DTA made available to the CERTIFLIGHT consortium its expertise, technological instrumentation as well as access to operational scenarios, including the Grottaglie Airport Test Bed, to carry out an extensive and differentiated experimental campaign that allowed it to validate the innovative receiver, the services offered by the Certiflight platform such as the secure management of data also with legal value, and to verify the potential for industrial and economic exploitation, thus contributing to the value of the space services of the European constellation GALILEO.
