Technologists for the repair of aeronautical structures using composite materials

Composite materials have now taken a leading role in all manufacturing companies and in particular they see a massive use in all programs aimed at the production of the existing and of the future aircrafts.

The supervision of  inspection and repair processes of composite complex and /or large aircraft structures has become essential for obvious security reasons, but assumes a strategic importance for the purpose of reducing the time and cost of the production process.

The project for “Technologists for the repair of aeronautical structures using composite materials”, is attached to the research project “DITECO – Defects, damage and repair techniques in the production processes of large composite structures” that fits into the subject of Technologies for the project and the production of composite structures and it is identified among the priority that the Aerospace Technology District proposes to develop. The declination of this topic has generated a set of projects (SPY, DITECO, MAIPCO, MASTCO), that starting from the common matrix of composite aircraft structures, face each other in a synergistic way problems of research and development and simultaneously of training.

In this context, “DITECO – Technologists for the repair of aeronautical structures using composite materials”, allowed to create specialists capable of recognizing and dealing with the events accompanying the occurrence of defects and damage in the laminates and composite structures. Moreover, these specialists will be able to apply advanced techniques for the detection of defects and damage and to adopt advanced repair technologies and methodologies for the analysis of long-term effects of repairs.
