Objectives
The “Bari Open Innovation Hub” project aims to create a reference centre in the city of Bari to experiment with emerging technologies applied to the use of autonomous and semi-autonomous driving systems and drones in urban contexts. The project proposal is characterised by the presence of a highly qualified public-private partnership capable of ensuring the necessary expertise to carry out research activities (University of Bari, Libera Università Mediterranea, National Research Council), technology transfer to companies (Aerospace Technology District and MEDITECH) also aimed at the creation of experiments and prototypes (TIM, Exprivia, AMT Services), the definition of operational protocols and national and international standards (ENAC), the maximum dissemination and replicability of results (ANCI, ARTI). The objective of the project is to create in the territory of the metropolitan city of Bari an innovation hub that can test new technologies and operational protocols with particular reference to the theme of autonomous and semi-autonomous driving through the use of 5G as an enabling technology and the use of AI, next-generation IoT and drones.
Activities and results
The Bari Open Innovation Hub will release three hubs:
• The first hub will be an innovation atelier where prototypes and innovations will be displayed and to activate the contamination lab
• The second hub will be in the Bari Industrial Development Area, where a business incubator and research laboratories will be located. A place is chosen to strengthen collaboration between businesses and research institutions for the project’s success.
• The third hub will be at the Fiera del Levante, located in the centre of the San Cataldo district, for field experiments (Living Lab). In this area the Urban Drone Range will be realized, a technological infrastructure to support Urban Air Mobility service experimentation and demonstration.

As part of the project, the Drones Beyond 2022 was created, an initiative of technology transfer, communication and territorial animation proposed by the DTA, to demonstrate the potential and benefits for the community of innovative solutions and services.
